The Life of DORIS NADINE FAIRLEY

Doris Nadine (Miller) Fairley, was born April 16, 1923, in Vivian, SD, where there was nothing but open prairie. Her parents, Bryan William and Florence Marie (Rinard) Miller, moved back to Iowa later that year. She attended a country school south of Indianola for eight years, then graduated from high school in 1941. Doris met and married Allan James Fairley in 1944, during World War II, the year he went into the European Theater. She worked at the local Ordnance Plant for 3 ½ years, the best way to help the war effort. He returned safely in 1946 and they shared a lifetime together, happily married for 64 years. They had no children of their own, but were lucky to be dearly loved by their niece, Cheryl Laird-Humphrey (Steven) and several cousins and God-children. Doris departed this earth Monday, July 13, 2015 at Calvin Community in Des Moines at the age of 92. She joins her husband and her parents who precede her in death.

There will be a gathering to celebrate Doris’s life from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. She will be laid to rest beside Allan at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Calvin Community or Hospice of Central Iowa in Doris’s name.
