The Life of CURTIS LYLE HEDRICK

Curtis L. Hedrick, age 94, passed from this world on Sunday, June 28, 2015. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Lutheran Church of Hope WDM, 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines at 2:00 pm with a dessert reception to follow.

Curtis was born August 26, 1920 in Saybrook, Illinois to Harry and Laura Hedrick. He served in the Army Infantry from 1940-1944 and the US Air Force as a pilot from 1944-1945. He worked as a cost accountant for over 40 years. Curtis was an active volunteer at LifeServe Blood Center well into his 90''''s.

Whether you knew him for 5 minutes or 50 years, he was one of those special people that touched your heart and would leave a lasting impression. As a friend of his said, "he was happy to give his time and was always eager to share his story of what he considered to be an ''''ordinary life''''. The fact of the matter is Curtis'''' life was anything but ordinary. Maybe it was in the way he told his stories, but somewhere in the ''''telling'''' of those was that inexplicable mark of a born story-teller.

Curtis is survived by his daughter, Paula Durham, Muscatine, IA; son, Scott Hedrick, Grimes, IA; granddaughter, JoDee Hedrick, Waukee, IA; grandsons, Matthew (April) Durham, Chicago, IL and Andrew (Ashley) Durham, Iowa City, IA.

He has been welcomed into heaven by his parents, his 2 sisters - Eulalie and Marjorie, and his wife of 59½ years, his best friend and the love of his life, Roberta Hedrick.

Curtis'''' cremains will be buried in the Reverence Garden within Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish Iowa, American Cancer Society, or First Presbyterian Church, Muscatine, IA in Curtis'''' honor.
