The Life of RONALD MERLE LIVINGSTON

Ron Livingston, 80, went home to heaven on June 26, 2015. He was born December 2, 1934, in Rockford, Iowa. He moved to Des Moines as a child and attended Woodside Elementary School, then Warren Harding Middle School. He attended Tech High School, specializing in Automotive and Diesel. Cars were his life from his teen years to working at Friedman Motors, where he was service manager the last 10 years. Then he started Ron’s Auto Repair, where he ran a very successful, customer-oriented repair service for 20 years. On November 10, 1994, Ron was struck by a car as he crossed the street and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He made a satisfactory recovery until Alzheimer’s symptoms began several years later. Ron suffered a stroke in July 2009 and has been in a care center since.

Ron was a member of Westchester Evangelical Free Church, where he sang in the choir; also two Antique Car Clubs; Gideon’s International; and business and automotive organizations. He was everyone’s friend and willing and able to do whatever needed to be done.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 35 years, Carol; daughters Pam Livingston (Dennis Boulland), Paula Farrell (Jack), Penny Kramme (Drexel); son Raymond Livingston (Lisa); stepdaughters Alice Baldwin (Greg), Beth Webb (Jerry), stepson Eric Schallert (Chanin); 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and sisters Ruby Wheatly (Jack), Shirley Frost and Edith Coburn (Bob).

Visitation will be Sunday, June 28, 2015, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2015, at Westchester Evangelical Free Church, 4919 Aurora Ave., Des Moines. A private burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hidden Acres Christian Center, 3837 Union Ave., Dayton, Iowa 50530.
