The Life of BARBARA JEAN DELK

Barbara Jean Delk was born January 13, 1933, in Boone, Iowa, to Mignonne M. and Forrest M. Grovier. She grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, where she attended school. She met her husband, Ira E. “Ed” Delk, at Gatchel Methodist Church in Des Moines. They were married October 20, 1951, in Denver, Colorado, where Ed was stationed in the Air Force.

After Ed finished law school, they moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where they lived for 32 years before retiring to Bella Vista, Arkansas.

Barbara sang in the choir in the churches they attended and very much enjoyed singing. She was also active in The Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron of Morningside Chapter in Sioux City.

Upon retirement, she enjoyed playing golf, bridge, singing and attending classes at the University of Arkansas.

She and Ed have been married over 63 years and traveled all over the U.S. and around the world.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Steven M. Delk, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; a daughter, Linda J. Rubel, of Sioux City, Iowa; a brother, Jack A. Grovier of West Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and her dog Lucky.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m., on Friday, June 5, 2015, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines.

Memorials may be made to the music department of the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd, Bella Vista, AR 72715.
