Ione Johnson was born March 17, 1920 in Des Moines, Iowa to Hoyt and Ida (Simmerman) Woodward. She celebrated her 95 birthday and then passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, March 18, 2015.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2015, with funeral service at 1:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Ione married Loren Johnson in 1950 in rural Altoona at the family farm. She enjoyed reading, cross-stitch, needlepoint and crocheting. Ione was a good cook and did a lot of canning. She is survived by her son, Jerald Johnson; daughter, Delieth Johnson; brother, Forrest Woodward; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren; parents, Ida and Hoyt; and brothers, Guy and Ralph Woodward.
