The Life of MILDRED MARIE DESMIDT
Mildred Marie DeSmidt died March 11, 2015 in Maumee, OH. She was born October 23, 1919 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Clarence and Mary Ellen (Kearney) Dunlevy.
She graduated from the local high school and the Fort Dodge Tabin Business College. On February 13, 1943 she was married to Harold A. DeSmidt, son of Abraham and Emma Gatton DeSmidt of Humboldt, Iowa, who was then serving in the U.S. Navy.
The couple lived in Washington, D.C. returning to Iowa after World War II, making their home in Des Moines.
Mildred enjoyed square dancing, traveling with her husband, antiques, genealogy, reading and caring for their home. Mildred and Harold were members of Highland Park Presbyterian Church.
The couple leaves daughter-in-law, Dianne DeSmidt; son, Michael (Nancy); five grandchildren, David (Cara) DeSmidt of Richmond, IN, Stephanie (Jason) Apple of Heyworth, IL, Michelle (David) Huss of Springboro, OH, Amy (William) Blatt of Troy, MI, and Andrew DeSmidt of Toledo, OH; nine great grandchildren, Elena and Colin Blatt, Maia and Alexander DeSmidt, Mary and Greta DeSmidt, Lyssa and Kaeden Apple, David Jack and Heidi Huss.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth English; husband Harold and son, Gary.
Funeral service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.
