The Life of VIRGINIA R MONACO CONKLIN

Virginia Conklin, 81, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015 in the comforting care of Carlisle Care Center surrounded by her loved ones. Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa from 10 a.m. until noon on Monday, January 19, 2015, followed immediately by a memorial service.

Born September 20, 1933, Virginia was the oldest of four children of Lester and Ruth Monaco of Des Moines. She graduated from East High School and worked for Product Development Corporation until her retirement in 1999.

Virginia’s survivors include the love of her life, Don Steadman. They were blessed with 58 years together and during those years, they traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean where Virginia loved to scuba dive. She is also survived by her three children, Jeanine Minshall of Urbandale, Les Conklin of Des Moines and Kevin Conklin of Martensdale; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Vivian Warburton of Des Moines, her brother, Monty Monaco of Sandy, Utah and her devoted friend, Yvonne Bell of Port Antonio, Jamaica. Virginia’s youngest sister, Toni Burgess, preceded her in death by a day.

Virginia will be remembered by her family and friends for her unconditional love and her “you can if you try” attitude. Special gratitude is extended to the staff at Carlisle Care Center for their excellent care during her illness with Alzheimer’s.
