The Life of Joyce Watson

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at 11:00 AM in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers, for Joyce Ellen Watson, 87, who passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at her residence. Reverend Richard Humphries, Senior Pastor at Asbury United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be held at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Delhomme Funeral Home, Lafayette on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 10:00 AM until time of services.

Joyce was born on September 22, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana where she spent her formative years. At the age of seven, she moved with her parents to St. Louis, Missouri where she would live until 1968. During her time in St. Louis, she graduated from Southwest High School, met the love of her life, and married Eugene “Gene” Watson in January 1951, a marriage of which bore two children, David (1957) and Diane (1959). After residing in San Diego, California and New Orleans, Joyce and Gene ultimately retired to Lafayette in 1993. While in Lafayette, Joyce was a volunteer at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and Hospice of Acadiana.

Joyce was an avid bingo player, St. Louis Cardinals and Ragin Cajun Baseball fan.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Ron Glasgow of Mandeville, Louisiana; her son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Cindy Watson of Lafayette, Louisiana; her granddaughter, Kathryn Watson of Houston, Texas; and her grandson, Brian Watson of Lafayette, Louisiana.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Gene” Watson, her mother, Lena Vick Bolling and her father, Charles Bolling.

The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Joyce’s caregivers, Regina Pappas and Lacey Case of On-Time Caring, Dr. Kelly Cahill, the staff of St. Joseph Hospice and all the wonderful people of Lafayette who made Joyce and Gene’s retirement years so enjoyable.

In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests contributions in Joyce’s memory are made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 101 Live Oak Blvd Lafayette, LA 70503, St. Joseph Hospice, 1330 South Hugh Wallis Road, Lafayette, LA 70508 or a charity of your choice.
