The Life of Betty Jane Schluntz

Betty Jane Vincent Schluntz, 80, of Beaumont, peacefully passed away and joined the Lord on December 16, 2014. Abiding by her wishes, Betty passed on to Glory while in her home, surrounded by the love of her family and grandpups.

Intellectual, vivacious and focused, Betty wassalutatorian of Lafayette High School and attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute and Lamar University. After marriage to Harold Schluntz, her church sweetheart and high school valedictorian, the couple traveled with the United States Air Force and Mobil Oil; then settled in Beaumont, Texas, to raise their two daughters.

An accomplished vocalist and pianist, she sang lead soprano solos in holiday cantatas, weddings and musicals. Purpose driven, positive and compassionate, Betty was a dedicated Christian and lead a host of children’s, youth and musical ministries.

Betty faced life’s challenges with grace, resilience and the unsurpassable power of prayer. To be without Betty’s presence, her comforting words of wisdom, gentle encouragement and share the spirit of joy she had for others, is our grievous loss.

However, our heartbreak is pacified in the unshakeable truth that she is with our Savior and our God.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Nancy Angell and Carolyn St. Clair, of Houston; sisters, Darrelyn Broussard of Couer d’ Alene, Idaho, Glenda Elliott of Fort Worth, Texas, and Karen Verrett of Broussard, Louisiana; brothers, Oran Vincent, Calvin Vincent, Jr., John Wayne Vincent, and Donnie Ray Vincent, all of Lafayette, Louisiana; and an impressive group of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty years, Harold Schluntz; grandson, Landon Angell; son-in-law, Don Angell; her sister, Gale Jennings; and her parents, Zoe and Calvin Vincent.

May her blessed soul rest in peace as she sings soprano with the heavenly angels and is reunited with her new and perfect body.

"Betty lives on in our hearts as a kind and caring mother, loving and devoted wife, loyal and trusted sister and friend."

A gathering of Mrs. Schluntz’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with her funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 20, 2014, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Her graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m., at Lafayette Memorial Park, 2111 West Pinhook Road, Lafayette, Louisiana.
