The Life of PHYLLIS MARGIE VANDERLOO

Phyllis Margie (Witt) Vanderloo, was born July 31, 1921 north of Manning, Iowa on the Witt family farm. She was the only member of the family to be born on the farmstead. She died in Des Moines, Iowa on December 18, 2014, at the age of 93.

Phyllis was the daughter of Arnold R. and Florence (Ehlers) Witt. She and her brother Wayne were their only children. Phyllis married Edward Joseph Vanderloo on September 1, 1945 in St. Cecilia’s Church in Hastings, Nebraska. They lived in Carroll, Iowa and moved to Des Moines in 1954.

Prior to her marriage, Phyllis worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings. After her marriage, she dedicated her time to family, making childhood years the very best. She was a diligent wife and mother always giving of herself. Phyllis was active at Valley View Village.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, and brother, Wayne. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Vanderloo (John Leiendecker Jr.), Kathryn (Melvin) Weatherwax, and Janet (Bruce) Thompson; grandchildren, Lisa (Jim Quilty) Kruger, Rebecca (Eric) Heikes, Gregg Wing, John (Lindsay) Leiendecker III, Jessica (Tyler) Jacobsen, Brian (Hollie) Weatherwax, Kara (Matthew) McGarvey, Stacey (Matt) Thompson-Curran, and Erin (Mike Schmidt) Klinge; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Blake, Katlyn, Isabella, Dessa, Tiger, John “Jake” IV, Kaden, Jasmine, Hunter, Abigail, Claire, Grace E., Karlin, Fletcher, Andrew, Caroline, Jack, Daryan, Sophia & Sullivan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
