The Life of DONALD W COX

Donald W. Cox, 84, went home to be with His Lord and Savior, Friday, November 28, 2014 at Mercy Hospice Johnston. Don was born on April 15, 1930.

Don was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving as a Corporal in the US Army. He was an employee of Firestone Tire for 44 years. Shortly after retirement he and Charlotte worked part time at Frank W. Smith Center as a maintenance man.

He married Charlotte Wheatly on August 23, 1953, they had seven children, including a daughter who died at birth.

He loved his children and enjoyed supporting them in their endeavors. Don enjoyed serving in a variety of ministries at First Church of the Open Bible.

Don is survived by his first love, his wife of 61 years, Charlotte; children, David (Brenda) of Warrensburg, MO, Roger (Connie) of Bondurant, Carolyn (Kevin) Mears of Des Moines, Donette (Ted) Ramsey of Panora, John (Barb) and Brett of Des Moines. Don leaves behind a legacy with 18 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He is survived by four brothers; a sister; and many nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Don is preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte, his parents, six brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at First Church of the Open Bible, 2200 Beaver Ave in Des Moines, Iowa with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, December 1, 2014 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines.

Memorial Contributions may be made designated to First Church of the Open Bible or Mercy Hospice Johnston.
