The Life of CLAYTON CROSBY

Clayton “Clay” Crosby, 87, was born February 2, 1927, to William and Lola Crosby in Van Buren, Arkansas. He passed away at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines on November 3, 2014.

Clay lived in Des Moines, Iowa most of his life. He held many jobs, sometimes more than one at a time. At an early age, Clay sold newspapers in his community and ushered at the local movie theater. Over the years he was a photographer, was employed by Solar Aircraft, and retired from the United States Postal Service after 43 years of service.

Clay was a longtime member of the Auburn Lodge. His favorite pastimes included gardening and tending to his flower gardens. Clay was no stranger to the kitchen. Throughout his life he enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning. There was never a task too large for him to complete.

Clay was a good father and loving husband who will be missed by many, especially his wife, Judy, and their best friends, Joe and Sharon, with whom he held weekly business meetings at the Pizza Ranch.

Clay is survived by his loving wife, Judy Crosby; children, Sandy Smith of Lonsdale, Arkansas, Diane (Don) Bush of Marshalltown, Clayton Crosby Jr. of Winterset, David (Toni) Crosby of Des Moines, and Catherine Knight of Chicago, Illinois; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great-grandchildren; as well as his sister, Christine Wyper of Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings, Eva Jones, Allen Crosby and William Crosby.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
