The Life of Rene Alfredo Garrett

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial, in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette, for Rene A. Garrett, 53, who passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014 in Baton Rouge.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed in Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand, on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with a Rosary prayed at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 8:00 AM until the time of service.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reverend Emmanuel Fernandez, Pastor of St. John Catholic Church in Henry, Louisiana, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services.

Rene was raised in Lafayette, graduated from Cathedral Carmel High School and obtained a Degree in Biology from the University of New Orleans and also attended Tulane University. He worked most of his life in the medical field as a biologist and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps and was a Navy Seal. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking and spending time with friends. Rene was a loving son who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his two daughters, Celina Garrett and Gabriella Garrett; one granddaughter, Isabella; his mother, Nena Montoya Bennett; two brothers, Robert Joseph Garrett and Kervin E.B. Garrett; one aunt, Dilia Palgrave; and two cousins, Jose "Nayo" Calderon and Cynthia Walker. He was preceded in death by his father, Marion Eugene Bishop Garrett.
