The Life of STEVAN SCOTT SMITH
Stevan Scott Smith, age 62, died Friday morning, January 24, 2014, under hospice care. He was born December 23, 1951 in Cedar Rapids to Mildred (Johnson) and Rex Smith, Sr. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa with a business degree. He married Patricia Franey on August 28, 1971.
Steve was co-owner of Rexco Equipment for 46 years. He was an avid member of Meredith Drive Reformed Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling to warm destinations, and cheering onthe Hawkeyes.
Steve is survived by his wife, Patti; son, Casey (Nikki); daughter, Melanie Smith; brothers, Rex Jr. (Ellen), and Mike (Gaye) Doughterty; sisters, Sherry (Dick) Cornish, and Linda (Bob) Driscoll, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and parents-in-law, Joseph and Margret Franey; and step-mother-in-law, Naomi Franey.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2014 at Meredith Drive Reformed Church, 5128 Meredith Drive, Des Moines. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Private family inurnment will be made at a later date in Highland Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the church.
