The Life of STUART RAYMOND JOHNSRUD

With family by his side, Stuart R Johnsrud, 52, passed away peacefully September 10th, 2014.

Stuart was born in Joplin, Missouri on August 21, 1962. He grew up in Cresco, Iowa and graduated from Crestwood High School. Stuart spent his career working in many capacities at the family business, Johnsrud Transport, most recently as Executive Vice President.

For 49 years, Stuart persevered through the many challenges of having Type I diabetes, but that never stopped him from living his life to the fullest. Stuart was blessed with a second chance at life in 1994 at the age of 32 when his sister, Jackie, gave him the gift of one of her kidneys. With a grateful heart, Stuart became inspired to give back by becoming heavily involved in Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), Iowa Donor Network, Life From Life Transplant Support Group, and Team Iowa. He also gave of his time to serve on the Des Moines Christian School Board and was very involved with his church.

In 2005, Stuart embraced the roles of husband and father when he married Rae Simonini with her daughter Tori by their side whom he adoringly took on as his own. His unconditional love for his family kept him busy up until the end of his inspiring life.

Stuart lived an honorable life and will leave a legacy of selflessness, compassion, and grace. Even though some consider his life short, it was filled with love, courage, and passion to make the world a better place for everyone he came in contact with. He will be missed dearly by everyone. It''''s not goodbye, just see ya later. We love you!

He is survived by his wife, Rae; daughter, Tori; father, Leon Johnsrud; mother, Jude Johnsrud; sister, Jackie (Jeff) Gordon, and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father in law, Titus Simonini.

Visitation will be held at Dunn''s Funeral Home on Monday, September 15, 2014 from 4:30-7:30 pm. The celebration of his life will be held at New Hope Assembly of God at 4425 70th Street in Urbandale on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery on 2nd Avenue in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Furry Friends Refuge, JDRF, or consider becoming an organ donor in his honor.
