The Life of VIRGINIA FERN MILLER

Fern went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 2, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was born March 19, 1921, in Brimson, Missouri, to Carral and Lucy Gibson. She was a homemaker, worked for Drake University, and volunteered for Goodwill Industries.

She was a member of Grandview Park Baptist Church for over 50 years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and family. Her hobbies were going to auctions and having garage sales. She was known by many friends for her willingness to help others. She especially enjoyed sewing for her grandchildren in earlier years. She also enjoyed traveling South with her husband for the winter.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary and Pauline; and her loving husband, Willard of 65 years of marriage. She is survived by her son, Roger (Sandy); her twin sister, Faye, and sister, Juanita; brother, Dale; three grandsons, Todd (Vi), Troy (Chris), and Tim (Marcy); as well as seven great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Brendan, Jessamyn, Zane, Levi, Natalie, and Cian.

She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends at church, Stone Crest apartments, and the Shores at Pleasant Hill.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
