The Life of JOHN PERRY HODSON

On July 13th we said goodbye to a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who fought a short but courageous battle with cancer. John Hodson was born November 2nd, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa to John J and Beverly F. Hodson. He was a loyal Des Moines “Eastsider” who taught history and government at Brody Junior High and finished his career at East High School. He was an avid wood worker whose creations were large and small and beautifully crafted. Family was the center of his world, especially his three granddaughters.

After John graduated from East High School, he attended William Penn College where he earned his teaching certificate. He later attended Drake where he earned a master’s degree in education. After marrying his HS sweetheart, Trudy, he was blessed with two sons, Jeff and Chris. Having grown up in a construction- working family, he also supplemented his income by tending brick layers in the summers and also completed several home remodeling projects. His love of wood projects was almost a full time job during his retirement years. In the latter years of his retirement he also enjoyed the rewarding experience of volunteering in the woodshop classroom at East High.

Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife, Trudy; Sons, Jeff (Shannon), Chris (Londa); Granddaughters, Taylor, Ashley, and Abby; Brothers-in-law, Dick Smith and Randy Enterline. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Jo Enterline.

Funeral services will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, on Friday, July 18th at 2 PM. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the charity of choice.
