The Life of Joseph J. Sr. Hanz

Joseph James Hanz, Sr., age 64, of Ansonia, passed away peacefully on Thursday July 3, 2014 in the VITAS Hospice Unit at St. Mary''s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Elizabeth Rose (Matyasovszky) Hanz.

Mr. Hanz was born in Bridgeport on July 4, 1949 son of the late Joseph Peter and Mabel Elizabeth (Martin) Hanz. He was retired after having worked as a machine operator for many years. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed NASCAR, wrestling, the New York Yankees and the New York Football Giants, and coaching Little League. He also enjoyed the outdoors and camping with his family.

Mr. Hanz proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972 and also retired as a staff sergeant from the Army National Guard 242nd Engineer Battalion after serving for 20 years.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hanz is survived by a daughter: Tammy Lee Bizewski and her husband Robert Bizewski, Sr. of Oxford, two sons: Joseph James "Joey" Hanz, Jr. of Ansonia and Stephen Anthony Hanz and his wife Cassie Nicole of Ansonia, a sister: Mary Jane Kosa and her husband William Kosa, Sr. of Stratford, three grandchildren: Robert "Binks" Bizewski, Jr., Corey "Rugrat" Bizewski and Krysta "Giggles" Bizewski and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 10, 2014 at 7 p.m. at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home 72 Waterbury Road Prospect. Military honors will be presented at the funeral home immediately following the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday July 10, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m.
