The Life of Leslie Cabel Gillis

Leslie (Les) Gillis, retired railroad worker and beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, went to be with the Lord on January 28, 2009.

Les was the beloved husband of Virginia Williams Gillis who predeceased him in 2006. He leaves behind two children; Joan Egbert of Suwanee, Georgia and Diane Muldowney of Holmes, Pennsylvania; four granddaughters (Laurie Ree, Rebecca Larsen, Karen Egbert and Amber Muldowney); and nine great grandchildren.

Leslie Gillis was born in Howard City, Maryland on March 16, 1924. He moved to Delaware County, Pennsylvania as a teenager with his parents Charles and Ritchie Gillis.

He left Pennsylvania in 2006 and moved to Georgia. He worked hard all his life beginning as a young boy selling newspapers and going on to work thirty nine years as a welder for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. He supplemented his income by learning how to fix televisions and working as a guard on the weekends.

He loved his wife dearly and provided wonderful Christmas memories for his children. He had a beautiful Irish tenor voice and loved singing. A comment often heard was, “Your father is a nice man.” You will be sorely missed, Dad.

Flowers accepted or Memorials may be made to the Calvary Independent Baptist Church, 716 Amosland Road, Morton, PA 19043.
