The Life of MARY MAXINE PARKER WHITSON
Mary Whitson, 91, was born August 16, 1922, to Fred and Pearl Rummans in Des Moines, Iowa. She passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2014.
Mary was a homemaker for most of her life, but also worked as a receptionist at Throckmorton Law Office and assisted with the Iowa Legislature for many years.
She was an avid golfer, loved to cook and travel, and was a very independent woman. Above all else, Mary treasured her family and cherished the time she spent with them.
Mary is survived by her husband, Bob Whitson; son, Gary Parker; stepdaughter, Nancy (John) Showalter; grandchildren, Lisa (Bill) Corwin, Alyson Parker, Melinda (Rudy) Perez, Mindy (Michael) Barnes, Michelle Parker, Matt Marron, Brian Marron, Lindsay Marron, Sally (Doug) Catron, and Jill (Lance) Northway; her great-grandchildren, Parker, Zach, Natalie, Allison, Sydney, Madelyn, Michaela, Annie, Emily, Jensen, and Zoe; daughters-in-law, Gail Parker, Julie Cavanaugh, and Carol Whitson; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Samuelson and Marianne (Cal) Floren; as well as her nieces, Judi (Phil) Searle, Vicki Bennett, Darlene (Bob) Lansinger, Kris (Ed) VanWyk, and Kathy Vitullon. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Parker; son, Donald Parker Jr.; stepson, Bob Whitson Jr.; as well as two sisters and two brothers.
A private graveside service will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date.
