The Life of Sam Gianpoalo

Samuel Gianpoalo, 85, of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest on May 9, 2014, at Hewitt Health Care in Shelton. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley Pucci Gianpoalo and Marion Donofrio Gianpoalo. Mr. Gianpoalo was born in Derby on January 26, 1929, son of the late Paul and Gelsomina DeGregoria Gianpoalo. A resident of Ansonia for most of his life, he was employed at United Shoe in Shelton and Stop & Shop in Ansonia until his retirement. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, he honorably served during the Korean Conflict. Sam led the Starlighters Band for many years and enjoyed playing horseshoes, golf and bowling. He is survived by a daughter, Susan Herman of Terryville, a son, Samuel Gianpoalo of NY, grandchildren, Donna Lane of Terryville, Marissa Baird of Las Vegas, NV, Samuel Gianpoalo III and Steven Gianpoalo of Enfield and Jesse Gianpoalo of NY, great-grandchildren, Anthony and Haley Lane, Madison and Aubrey Baird, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Nicholas and Anthony Gianpoalo and sisters, Loretta Clifford, Victoria “Dolly” Clifford and Ann Muli. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday May 14, 2014, from 5-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday, his funeral will be held at 8:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia.
