The Life of DOUGLAS WILLIAM MAYO

Douglas Mayo, 64, passed away at Mercy Hospice in Johnston on Wednesday, October 2, 2013.

Doug is survived by his wife, Leslie Mayo of Ankeny, daughter, Angela (Shawn) Reeves of Ankeny, daughter, Mendy (TJ) Weigand of Chicago, Illinois, grandchildren, Phoebe, Miles and Trey Reeves, and sister, Dwynne Kuhlman of Bonita Springs, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Helen (Syferd) Mayo.

Doug was born May 25, 1949 in Des Moines and was a lifelong resident of the area. He enjoyed golfing and boating. Doug adored his family and loved spending time with his grandkids. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. Doug’s vibrant personality made everyone feel welcomed and loved. He was a fighter with a contagious, positive spirit and greeted everyone with a smile. He will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Doug was an active member of the Home Builders Association for over 25 years. He was dedicated to his work and his customers as general manager of Kitchen and Bath Ideas. Doug helped to create a scholarship fund for HBA of Iowa Educational Corporation to provide educational assistance to individuals who have an interest in home building and related industries.

There will be a Celebration of Doug’s life at 11 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2013 at Ankeny First United Methodist Church, 206 SW Walnut, Ankeny. Family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 N.W. 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
