The Life of EDYTHE VIRGINIA VAN CLEAVE

Edythe Van Cleave, 93, died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Trinity Center at Luther Park, from a stroke. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Grace Church, 4200 E. 25th Street, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.

Edythe was born June 15, 1920, in Des Moines, Iowa. At the age of 13, she received Christ as her Savior and was baptized. She graduated from North High in 1938, where she met and fell in love with her star athlete, Harold. They were married December 15, 1939. Over the next twenty years they were blessed with six sons and a daughter. They were married for 64 years.

Edythe is survived by her sons, Jack (Pat), Bob (Judi), Jerry (Patty) and Garry (Cindi); daughter, JoAnn (Terry) Holst; 23 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; sons, Richard and Bill; grandson, Jason; and great-grandchildren, Finnigan and Hannah Grace.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dropz of Hope, 400 West Park Avenue, Runnells, IA 50237-7727, a granddaughter’s non-profit.
