The Life of PATRICIA L EVANS

Patricia (Pat) Louise Evans, a long-time resident of South Des Moines, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by her family. Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert (Bob) Evans from whom during their nearly 50 years of marriage, she was rarely separated for more than a few hours. Bob passed away on February 20, 2014 and we know he was waiting for her at the gates of heaven so they could walk in and continue their love story side-by-side for eternity.

Pat was born in Indianola, Iowa on April 18, 1931. Orphaned as a child, she was adopted from the Iowa Soldier Orphans Home and raised by her adoptive parents, Carl A. and Leada Knights, in Clinton, Iowa. In accordance with Pat’s wishes, her body has been cremated and no services will be held. The family will gather for a private celebration of her life at a later date.

Pat graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, Iowa, attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and St. Petersburg Bible Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida. While a student in Florida she was an active participant in the music ministry. A gifted soprano, Pat performed with several music groups and also played the piano and accordion. She was a frequent musical guest on area Christian radio broadcast programming.

Pat and Bob Evans were married in 1967 and spent their lives together on the South side of Des Moines where they raised three proud Lincoln High graduates. After an extended tenure with Preferred Risk Insurance Company, she eventually retired after many years of service, from Employers Mutual Insurance Company. In her retiring years she especially loved road-tripping across the Iowa countryside with Bob. She was a crack shot with a rifle, an excellent cook and seamstress, a lover of books and she spent many happy hours making her yard beautiful by fussing over her many flowers. She was an eternal optimist and example of inner strength for her family.

Pat is survived by her daughters, Debbie Williams, Renee (John) Swallow and Angelique (Daniel) Adams; grandchildren, David (Missy) Williams, Michael Williams, Sara Williams, Megan (Rob) Robinson, Carrie (Clint) Meek, Rebekah Swallow, Anna (David) Pfaltzgraff, Jenna Swallow, Emily Swallow, Katherine Adams and Jonathan Adams; great-grandchildren, Victoria, Miley, Zander, Sadie and Ian. She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, beloved husband and granddaughter, Marjorie Louise Swallow.

Pat was a faithful supporter of Iowa Public Television. The family suggests memorial contributions may be directed to IPTV at http://iptv.org/pledge/ in her honor.
