The Life of Irene Landry

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, for Mrs. P. V. Landry, Jr., age 93, the former Irene Girouard, who died on Monday, April 7, 2014 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, Louisiana will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lector will be Hilton Sonnier. Giftbearers will be Holly Hooper and Brooke Quibedeaux. Jodi Bollich, vocalist, accompanied on the organ by Tom Niel, will sing for the services, "Amazing Grace", "Hail Mary Gentle Woman", "Be Not Afraid", and "Ave Maria".

A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette Parish, Mrs. Landry was the daughter of the late Sidney Girouard, a native of Broussard and the former Alma Guilbeau, a native of Lafayette. She was a parishioner of St. John Cathedral Catholic Community, a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Daughters of America Court #1613, Societe de Ste. Anne of St. John''s Cathedral and St. John''s Cathedral Ladies Altar Society. She was also a member of the National Fraternal of Piano Hobbyist, board member of Les Amis de CODOFIL and past member of Medical Assistance.

Mrs. Landry was a 1939 graduate of Scott High School. She retired as a Medical Assistant after working 40 years at Lafayette Sanitarium; Desormeaux Clinic; Major Field Hospital in Greenville, Texas; Military Hospital in Sherman, Texas; and in the offices of Dr. Ralph Bourgeois, Dr. Phillip Purpera and Dr. George Gardiner.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Margo and Hilton Sonnier of Lafayette; and a son, P.V. "Rocky" Landry, III; ; two brothers, Ray, and Harold James Girouard, all of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Sean Boudreaux, Brooke Quibodeaux, Brandi Latiolais, Danielle Vassar, Justin P. Landry and Holly Hooper; and numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, P.V. Landry, Jr.; her parents; a daughter, LaJuana L. Landry, and four brothers, Ernest, Walton, Louis, and Sidney "Pat" Girouard; her sister Nelda Judice; one daughter-in-law Margaret Landry.

Pallbearers will be Justin Landry, Bobby Latiolais, Aubrey Quibodeaux, Heath Vallot, Cody Latiolais, and George Hooper.

A Rosary will be recited by Brady LeBlanc on Thursday at 6:30PM in the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Maison De Lafayette, Heart of Hospice, and Sonya Jackson whom she loved "Big Big".

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10AM to 8PM on Thursday, April 10, 2014 and 8:00 AM until time of the services on Friday.
